Título da Palestra:
Privacy in data publication

Palestrante:
Pierangela Samarati - Università degli Studi di Milano (Itália)

Resumo:
Information is today probably the most important and demanded resource. We live in an internetworked society that relies on the dissemination and sharing of information in the private as well as in the public and
governmental sectors. Information about us is collected every day, as we join associations or groups, shop for groceries, or execute most of our common daily activities. In addition to this, Governmental, public, and private institutions are increasingly required to make their data electronically available.
Such data often contain sensitive information related to individuals or organizations that should be protected from disclosure. The problem of properly ensuring privacy when publishing or releasing data, is far from being trivial. As a matter of fact, even apparently anonymous or sanitized data can be exposed to attacks aiming at breaching confidentiality and retrieving information not intended for disclosure.

In this tutorial I will characterize the different aspects of the privacy problem in the context of data publication and will illustrate issues, techniques, open problems, and emerging solutions for ensuring confidentiality of sensitive information to data collection undergoing external release.
